The agreement, in plain English.
Last updated: May 26, 2026
This is a plain-English summary of the terms governing your use of Obit during the current beta. A formal terms-of-service document is in preparation. If anything here is unclear, write to hello@obit.app.
What you can do.
Create memorial pages for people you have a real connection to. Invite family and friends to contribute. Choose how public the page is. Cancel anytime by emailing us.
What you cannot do.
Create memorial pages for people you do not have permission to memorialize. Use Obit to harass, defame, or impersonate. Upload content you don’t have the right to share. Scrape or resell memorial pages. Reverse engineer the service.
If you do any of the above, we reserve the right to take down the affected memorial and close the account.
Who owns the content.
You own everything you write, photograph, or upload to Obit. We hold a limited license to host and display it so the memorial page works. If you delete a memorial, that license ends.
Plans, payment, and refunds.
The Family tier is free. Paid tiers (Household; Forever, when available) are one-time or recurring charges as labeled at checkout. If you upgrade and find Obit isn’t right for you, write to us within fourteen days for a refund.
How long pages stay online.
Family pages stay online for two years from creation. Household pages stay online for ten years. Forever (a planned tier) keeps the page online for as long as Obit exists. We will notify you before any retention expiry.
Beta limitations.
Obit is in early beta and provided as-is. We do our best to keep your data safe and the service running, but during beta we cannot offer formal SLAs. Keep your own copy of anything irreplaceable.
Changes.
We may update these terms as Obit grows out of beta. We’ll tell you before anything material changes. The current version always lives here.
