Settings
Memorial settings
Manage the publishing, access, and public identity settings for this memorial. This is the control center for how the memorial exists in the world.
Page job
Use Settings for memorial control decisions.
Come here when you need to publish, change visibility, set the memorial path, review plan state, or handle stewardship controls. This is not the best page for everyday follow-up once the memorial is already moving.
Quick route guide
Review: readiness and preview
Settings: publish, access, slug, plan, stewardship
Dashboard: operations, people, tributes, RSVP, follow-up
Status
Published
This memorial is live according to its visibility settings and can be shared when access rules allow.
Visibility
Private
Only internal editing and preview routes are available. Nothing public is exposed.
Slug
Not set
Add a slug before sharing the memorial publicly.
Plan tier
Free Draft
Draft keeps the memorial in private working space for writing, shaping, previewing, and internal review before any public sharing begins.
Plan tier and memorial visibility are separate decisions. A memorial can be ready for sharing in one sense but still remain private until visibility and publish state are set intentionally.
What Free Draft includes now
• One memorial draft
• Basics, obituary, story, and preview
• One image total
• Private-only workspace until you upgrade
Upgrade to Memorial when the family is ready for public sharing, tributes, RSVP, and a fuller gallery. Upgrade to Memorial Plus only when you need collaborators, contacts, outreach, or protected sharing.
Workspace overview
Ownership, role, and plan
See who owns this memorial, how the current account is entering it, and what plan/role layer shapes access.
Workspace mode: Owned memorial
Current role: Owner
Current plan: Free Draft
Collaborators: Manage helpers
Ownership context
Memorial owner: One primary owner account anchors this memorial.
Account relationship: This memorial belongs directly to the current account portfolio.
Role summary: Full memorial control, including sensitive settings and stewardship direction.
Plan and permission cues
Tier meaning: Private planning before any public sharing begins.
Publishing floor: Memorial and up.
Sensitive settings: Owner and up.
Protected sharing: Memorial Plus and up.
Rule of thumb: plan decides whether the memorial can have a feature. Role decides whether this account can use it.
Plan path
Plan summary and next step
This memorial already knows its current tier. Until billing is wired, upgrade flow should stay honest: describe what the next tier unlocks, confirm the memorial needs it, and avoid pretending checkout is already complete.
Current plan reality
Current tier: Free Draft
Best next tier: Memorial
Interim rule: use the current tier honestly in copy, but do not imply purchase completion until billing actually exists.
Upgrade flow groundwork
Current plan: Free Draft
This memorial is still in private planning. The next plan step is the shared memorial tier if the family is ready for publishing, tributes, or guest RSVP participation.
Next tier: Memorial
Checkout path: start secure checkout for this memorial and complete plan activation after payment confirmation is received.
Stewardship
Succession and transfer groundwork
These controls record trusted continuity without pretending ownership has already changed.
Stewardship timeline
Read the memorial’s current continuity story at a glance: current owner, backup steward, pending handoff, and most recent completed transfer.
Current owner
This account
This account currently holds memorial ownership and all owner-only controls now follow that state.
Backup steward
Not recorded
No backup steward has been recorded yet.
Pending handoff
No handoff in progress
No ownership handoff is currently waiting for acceptance.
Most recent completed transfer
No completed handoff yet
Ownership has not changed since this memorial was created.
Post-transfer control check
This account can manage future handoffs
Initiate and cancel controls should now belong only to this owner account.
Designated successor
Record one trusted collaborator as the backup steward for this memorial. Ownership does not change here.
Current successor: Not designated
Role: —
Designated at: —
Designated by: —
Eligibility: accepted collaborators with contributor, editor, or admin access.
Current control: only the owner can set or clear this designation.
Pending transfer
Record the person the owner intends to hand stewardship to next. Ownership still remains with the current owner.
Pending transfer target: No transfer in progress
Role: —
Initiated at: —
Initiated by: —
Can accept now: —
State meaning: this records the intended handoff target, but ownership still remains with the current owner.
Eligibility: accepted collaborators with contributor, editor, or admin access.
Completion model: only the selected pending-handoff person should be able to accept it, and ownership should change only when that acceptance step is completed.
After acceptance: the pending handoff should clear automatically, and the previous owner should remain part of the memorial workspace.
Normalization rule: after a completed handoff, the new owner becomes the only owner, while the previous owner settles into admin-level collaborator access unless a later flow changes that intentionally.
Current control: only the owner can initiate or cancel a pending transfer.

Settings map
Review is still the place to check memorial completeness. Settings is now organized around workspace context, stewardship, publishing, and access so families can find the right controls faster.
Danger zone groundwork
Lifecycle actions should stay careful.
Memorials should not have a casual one-click delete action. Archive is the safer first lifecycle tool because it removes clutter without destroying the memorial.
Permanent deletion can exist later, but it should live behind stronger confirmation in Settings rather than on the main memorial list.
Current status: archive and restore are available from My Memorials. Permanent delete is intentionally not available yet.
